Evaluations

Evaluations are recommended for authors who are not quite ready to undergo a full edit. Evaluations are quicker and cost less than full edits, but the recommendations given in response are more general, less lengthy, and less detailed. The manuscript is not marked up for errors, so the responsibility for catching any technical problems when rewriting remains with the author.

Once the electronic copy of the manuscript and its synopsis is received, I read it from beginning to end and make notes on any outstanding problems or other concerns. Lastly, I draw up a report based on those notes. This report contains a number of suggestions for the author to consider. These suggestions address substantive aspects of the manuscript, including considerations on plot, character development, style, and others. Technical aspects such as spelling, grammar, word usage, et cetera are only addressed if specific mention is required for major problems.

An evaluation can be completed in approximately one to three months depending on the length and quality of the manuscript as well as the amount of comments required to cover all problem areas.
